Explaining The Three Types Of Status Conferences

Essentially, the purpose of the Fulton County status conferences is to have scheduled, directed meetings between the parties, their attorneys and court officials. There are three status conferences.

  • 30-day status conferences occur 30 days after the filing of a divorce complaint. This conference is presided over by a judicial officer, and serves to ensure the two parties are moving forward in the divorce. The parties must exchange their completed mandatory discovery questionnaires at this time.
  • 60-day status conferences are also overseen by a judicial officer appointed by a judge. This status conference usually exists to resolve issues or disputes that have come up since the 30-day status conference. Any outstanding discovery issues or temporary issues such as payment of bills or the custody of children can be resolved at this stage.
  • 120-day status conferences are essentially scheduling meetings. This conference is with an actual judge who will determine who needs what for the trial, and when the trial should be scheduled.

These conferences are a great opportunity for the two parties to work through any temporary issues. Ongoing disputes such as bill payment, mortgage payment or access to the children can be resolved with the assistance of a judicial officer.
