The latest development in the ongoing Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva child custody case: Grigorieva has filed a contempt charge against Gibson, claiming that he has not made a full child support payment in the last three months.
Gibson has apparently been ordered to pay $20,000 a month in child support for the pair's young daughter, according to the celebrity gossip site Radar Online.
"For three consecutive months, Mel has paid Oksana somewhere between $5000 and $10,000 each month, it varies, but either way, it is well short of what a judge instructed he must deliver the mother of his child," a source claiming to have knowledge of the case has said.
Gibson's Failure to Make Full Child Support Payments May Be Due to Unemployment
The child support enforcement motion comes in the midst of a highly acrimonious and very public break-up between Gibson and Grigorieva. The dispute has involved allegations that Gibson assaulted Grigorieva and the public release of taped phone calls in which Gibson appears to threaten Grigorieva amidst a furious melt-down.
Those public allegations are clearly affecting Gibson's employability in Hollywood. He was recently offered a cameo role in the upcoming film "The Hangover 2," but was replaced when the other actors refused to work with him.
"Hangover 2" director Todd Phillips recently told Entertainment Tonight that while he respects Gibson, he had no real choice but to drop him from the film.
"He's one of our finest actors and, quite honestly, one of our finest directors, but The Hangover 2 [cast] is a family... and as much as I loved the idea, a lot of people didn't.
"I didn't want anything to come in between that family."
If Gibson is having difficulty paying his court-ordered child support, he is responsible for applying for a modification to the order. As child support modifications are generally not retroactive, anyone experiencing a change in circumstances that affects their ability to pay should petition the court for a modification as soon as possible.
