Misdemeanor vs. Felony Shoplifting
- Misdemeanor - Theft of less than $300 in merchandise from a store is a misdemeanor offense.
- Felony - If the merchandise is valued at $300 or more, the offense is a felony and carries potentially stronger penalties. Multiple small thefts can also result in a felony charge.
